Here is another piece inspired by the game, DEATH STRANDING. This time, it is a view from the foot of the mountains I have previously painted, just as Timefall pours down from above.

Here is my reference picture, which was a photo I took in the game with PhotoMode.

I am back from a little break. Had to take it because I posted my last piece on Twitter and that got overwhelming attention that I didn't expect. This was after Mr. Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions retweeted my picture (senpai noticed me) and the likes and retweets began pouring in. I was shocked and needed to pull away to process some feelings. It was very humbling to see, and though I am sure my future works will not get this amount of attention in a long while, I am deeply grateful for this experience.

So now that I have rested, I am back to making art, and here, I have used the landscape around Capital Knot City as reference. It's pretty desolate, and yet, amidst all that desolation, there is peace.

The Mountain

Here is my next piece, inspired by the game DEATH STRANDING. I came across this screencap from the game, taken of of snow-capped mountains looming behind a curtain of fog, which combines two of my favourite things in nature: mountains and fogs. I love mountains because they are so majestic and terrifying to behold. And I love fogs because everything always looks more interesting (and terrifying) in fog.

Revisiting an old medium with new inspiration. It has been a while since I used acrylic paint, and I have missed it so much.

Very clearly, I have been enjoying myself with DEATH STRANDING. This piece was most definitely inspired by the game, and I owe much of that inspiration to the game's visual designs. Even used a couple of screencaps of Port Knot City as reference.

#21

I walked through the woods, bracing myself against the wind howling through the trees that, as tall and old as they were, swayed and creaked, threatening to tumble over me as I came right alongside them. Not that it mattered if they did. I was done. They could crumple me under their combined weights for all I cared.

The rain continued to pour, the cold icy drops stinging like needles of ice upon my skin. Above, lightning streaked across the sky with the crackle of thunder, sending a shudder down my spine as I plodded through the undergrowth, my boots ankle deep in earth at every step I took.

Exhaustion soon took over and I had to stop. I couldn’t bear to walk on any further, although my mind kept screaming at me to carry on. I bent down, leaning my hands against my knees as I caught my breath. It was in that moment when my mind melted into a state of clarity and quite suddenly, my eyes welled up with tears. I had quietly attempted to dismiss it as the rain getting in my eyes at first, but I would only be lying to myself.  Yes, I didn’t have the hood of my raincoat over my head, so technically whatever moisture that was clouding my eyes was quite possibly part rain, but there was a separate sensation, a gentle yet painful squeeze, that one could never deny feeling at the inner corners of one’s eyes that rain alone could never blamed for. And so I was forced to admit it: I was crying.

Double DEATH STRANDING Fan Art Today

I guess it goes without saying that I am currently superbly obsessed with DEATH STRANDING.

The Strand

"There is something about the beach, that enthralls me. The way the sound of the waves just drowns everything out, and makes one imagine things one would otherwise have no time to imagine. It makes one consider many things, many possibilities. It’s a mysterious place, it’s a wondrous place, it’s a frightening place, where the mind stretches as deep as the ocean, wrought with marvels and terrors. Fascinating.”

Okay, I didn’t really have any other reason for this piece than to test the new Gelly Roll white ink pens that just arrived at my doorstep. I did the picture with brush pen several days back, which had this large patch of dark blue in the lower right corner that just made the picture looked empty. But then I thought: “Wouldn’t it be great it I had white ink to write something there and make it look like one of those beautiful art journaling pages?” That was when I went to Shopee to look for white ink pens.

And today they arrived, and I went to town with them. I am, admittedly, very happy with the results. I even coloured in the sky with the white ink so that it won’t look all black and flat.

Finally got to play DEATH STRANDING!

Norman Reedus as Sam Porter Bridges in DEATH STRANDING

. . .

Made a little pencil portrait fan art of Sam from DEATH STRANDING. Don't mind me, I'm just really really happy that I could finally play the game and I have been enjoying myself with it, too.

Here is the little story behind it (not much, but you're welcome to read) on TUMBLR

And here are a couple of shots I have taken while having fun with photo mode.

Tony, The Mechanic ('DEVIL' Fanart)

Logan Marshall-Green as Tony Janekowski in 'DEVIL'
Pencil on paper

. . .

For today’s fan art, it is Logan Marshall-Green as Tony the Mechanic in the 2010 horror film ‘DEVIL’. Well, it doesn’t really look like him, but I think I managed to (or at least I hope I did) capture his expression from the ending, where his past crimes were laid bare before him and all he could do was let guilt consume him.

Nevertheless, fun practice!

Recently finished season 2, and I have just developed a soft spot for this guy (with whom I was on the fence in season 1). Now taking a break before going into season 3 to see how it all ends.

#AugustDechART 2021 wrap-up!

#AugustDechART 2021 is done! And it has been a very interesting experience. The last time I joined a challenge like this was back in 2019 for Inktober, and while I had a bit of fun with that one, #AugustDechART was the one that got me to step out of my comfort zone. I found myself doing more portraits than I would normally care to do over a span of a month and I have developed a new-found love for the brush pen medium -- a medium I have been far too cowardly to commit to because I didn't understand how to use it. Also, the #DechartGames community is awesome! Everyone is so supportive and motivating, and it's amazing to see various forms of works inspired by these prompts. I have learned a great deal and developed more as an artist doing this, so I would like to say to #DechartGames duo, Bryan Dechart and Amelia Rose Blaire, that you have my deepest appreciation and gratitude. You guys are awesome! Thanks for this experience and I can't wait for the next one! Keep on being awesome!
