OCTOBER 2022 SKETCH WRAP-UP

Me sketches for the month of October. Quite a lot of Jack Quaid because I am still absolutely crazy about the guy, plus one of him and Erin Moriarty. Then some of Florence Welch, then of Connor -- this was spontaneously inspired by a hilarious post by a mutual on Twitter. Then, to end the month, three sketches of musicians whose works I love and support. Luke Levenson, Malingo and finally, Ryan Karazija of LOW ROAR, who had sadly passed just end of this month (Rest in love, Ryan.)

Bonus pieces. Did portraits of Jack Quaid with ink and gouache -- first time for me using this for portraits! Very interesting process and definitely gonna try more in the future.

A Steam-Powered Giraffe Fanart

This piece is inspired by a song from SPG's Space Opera 'The Vice Quadrant', called 'Soliton'. It's a very relaxing song, and it is one of my top favourites from the band. Also a new fan.

This picture is inspired by a recent performance by Florence + The Machine at Madison Square Garden. I absolutely love the energy Florence exudes throughout, especially during her performance of 'My Love'. Here is the recording of it. 

The part which sent me was the bridge, where they went low for a bit, and Florence spoke a little about the song, how it was written during a time where people could not meet up and dance together, before inviting everyone to join her in practising the resurrection of dance. This led to an epic buildup to the final chorus, where the crowd joined in and OMG, I just love it that they did that!

For this first prompt, I have decided to rewind to an old piece, one of my earliest serious attempts at digital painting, inspired by ‘Rattled Snow’ by Asgeir.

Had quite a tiring day, today. By the final hour of work, my brain had turned to complete mush and I couldn’t do anymore work after that, so I tore away and did this instead, to cool off. 

I guess you could say I drew inspiration from several places, the most prominent being DEATH STRANDING (as with most of my art recently). I would like to think that DUNE had a hand in this as well, given the desert setting. That and also Studio Ghibli’s TALES FROM EARTHSEA -- I was mostly listening to the soundtrack when I was painting this. And there was also a bit of Nightwish’s ALL THE WORKS OF NATURE WHICH ADORN THE WORLD (specifically, MOORS & AURORAE).

For this piece, I drew inspiration from several places, one being the Northern Lights itself. Then, there is the song ‘Surrender’ by Birdy, which is one of my top favourite songs, and there’s also DEATH STRANDING -- I am at that part of the game now where the skies are filled with auroras now post Chapter 9. And then, there is HIS DARK MATERIALS, in which the Northern Lights served as a trigger for Lyra’s epic and bizarrely spiritual adventure. 

The blending of the aurora lights were the hardest to achieve. It took some experimentation between several types of brushes, until I settled on a weird mixture of three -- round, square and air, with the aid of the smudge tool. It was fun playing around with them, nonetheless.

This time, I'm going for something a little different. As you can see, I have combined the medium of sketch and music into a video for the prompt, which is a combo of 'Harmony', 'Senses' and 'Favourites' -- because I have used the prompt for Day 18 previously -- 'Winning'. 

The portrait is of a favourite Classical composer of mine, Frederic Chopin, and the music playing in the background is his Prelude in E minor, which is one of my favourite pieces by this, along with a whole bunch of others -- especially his Nocturnes.
