Behold, an Angel of God!
. . .
Spare me your precious Virtues; I'm taking my Sins with me!
. . .
Lo! Emerging from the mist, a sphere of clear crystal!
. . .
Guess who? 🦇
Used the Bat-cave in Christopher Nolan's DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY as reference.

Having a bit of a low energy day today, so decided to go with something a little simpler with just ink. Admittedly not the most satisfying in results, but I did find myself drawing pleasure from inking the trees and the sky -- pretty therapeutic, actually. So that counts.

"We used to look up at the sky and wonder at our place in the stars, now we just look down and worry about our place in the dirt." -- Jonathan Nolan, Interstellar
On several occasions during work today, I had had to do a lot of waiting, mostly waiting for scripts to run and whatnot, so in between those moments, I took some time to paint this picture. I remembered looking at the prompt and I was thinking Interstellar, Le Petit Prince, the Kojima Productions credits and that one meme of an astronaut on the moon watching the Earth getting destroyed. Not sure how this picture came out of all that but I definitely had fun painting this at work.
. . .
The idea of this picture came to me in the middle of work, and I started painting on my phone while I was waiting for some feedback from colleagues. Then, suddenly, things escalated and I couldn’t paint anymore and needed to focus on work. By the time all was settled, I was having second thoughts about continuing the painting, because I was too tired to even think about it. I considered making an ink sketch, instead.
But as I sat down at my desk at home after dinner, suddenly, I didn’t want to do the ink sketch. The urge to continue the digital painting on my phone returned, so I went ahead with it.
Painting the whale took much more effort than I expected. I’m not completely satisfied with it at the moment, but it will have to do I guess. More practice in the future, perhaps.

And we’ll all go together to pull wild mountain thyme all around the bloomin’ heather. Will ye go, lassie, go? -- Francis McPeake, 'Wild Mountain Thyme'

‘The sun rises as the morning mist still hangs thinly in the air. Soon they must make their way across the land once again. Rising to their feet, they hoist upon their shoulder the burden that they have been tasked to carry, with a little groan. And with a deep, steady breath, the reluctant warrior sets forth upon their journey to the west.’

Some more practice with ink and facial expressions. Here is Tyler Hoechlin as Derek Hale in another favourite from the past, Teen Wolf.
. . .
*That* scene from Mike Flanagan’s ‘Midnight Mass’. If you know, you know.
Anyways, I definitely need more practice on depicting severe facial expressions. I think I have gotten the hang of more tranquil ones already so now this will be a new challenge. It took me a frightening amount of effort to get the eyes aligned and the mouth right.

Here is another old favourite of mine. This is Sam from ‘Trick ‘r Treat’, the keeper of the rules and traditions of Halloween, wielding his candy dagger.

On this day, I wasn’t particularly in a good place, creative-wise.
I initially had an idea to do something related to Jurassic Park. This is one of my all-time favourite films and I basically grew up around this franchise, so I thought it was about time I did some fanart about it -- like the claw scene in the kitchen -- but I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off. I also wasn’t sure if I was being wildly inconsistent with my sources of inspiration. If you have looked through my last few pieces of art, I have been jumping around various fandoms.
So I abandoned it altogether to think up on other possible things I could make from this prompt, including the scene in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban where Buckbeak flies over the Lake and also the Chiralium deposits in Death Stranding -- things which are within the vicinity of my last few inspirations.
At one point, I gave up thinking any further because I couldn’t decide so I considered making an original piece, but as I started it, I wasn’t particularly happy with the sketch that turned up. It was essentially a person seen from behind reaching into the sky with clawed hands, and an aura shaped like dragon claws glowed around them. As cool as the idea seemed in my head at first, the piece felt uninspired.
By that time, the night was getting late and I hadn’t had anything done, and while I knew I didn’t need to force myself to make anything, I still felt like I needed to create something; there was still energy that needed expressing. Beleaguered and somewhat exhausted, I decided to make things simple; screw everything that I have thought about, let’s go back to Jurassic Park.
And I’m glad that I did. I didn’t draw the kitchen scene, because I still felt like I couldn’t pull it off, so instead I went ahead in the film to another iconic scene after that; where Grant, Elie and the kids were trying to get the door locks to work and I had loads of fun figuring out this picture despite the exhaustion. Perspective takes time to work with. ;)
I initially considered colouring, but seeing as it was already late and I needed my sleep soon, I decided -- after having the pencil sketch done -- to try for ink instead. Makes for a more dramatic picture, after all, don’t you think?
. . .
A little portrait of a character from JK Rowling's Wizarding World that I am most endeared to. Newt Scamander, ladies and gentlemen, as seen from the first Fantastic Beasts movie where he was concocting a potion to cure Jacob's murtlap bite.
. . .
Gonna scoot on back over to ‘Detroit: Become Human’ for a while, because I need to draw this Queen. Simbi Khali as Amanda in DBH is formidable, intimidating and admittedly very scary. Despite her villainy in the game, she is undoubtedly still one fierce Queen.
. . .
I’m very much still deeply obsessed with Death Stranding, and I am in love with the Porter suit! I am in love its entire design, with all of its many intricate details and functionalities.
So I thought I’d draw it, using the photo of Hideo Kojima trying out the suit as reference.
. . .
Partially inspired by the Drowned Giant episode in 'Love Death Robots'. I was hoping to create something that felt mildly foreboding and desolate, and had initially envisioned it as a brush pen piece, but as I went about making it, I realised that it just ended up looking very messy and cartoon-ish, and I wasn't sure how I could save it, so I re-did the entire thing and went with pencil as the medium instead.
It worked out much better that way, in the end.
. . .
Ladies and gentlemen, here is Einar Selvik, from the Norwegian band Wardruna. For me, their music exudes spirituality.
Here is the time-lapse video of me working on the piece.

Decided to do something fun for this prompt. Recognise her? If not, then that means I have to work harder at my portrait-drawing skills. Anyways, here is Brenda from the hysterical classic 'Scary Movie' franchise!
. . .
Sunrise! Or sunset? Magic hour orange! Well, it bore the closest resemblance to what I had in mind to draw when I saw the prompt. More practice with layers of brush pen colours.
. . .
Having a little bit of a low vibration day today, so thought I'd go for something a little cozier with the theme.
I love listening to Camille's 'Le Festin' with this by the way.
. . .
This is the first time I have made a portrait with just brush pen (well, pencil for outlining, but otherwise no other medium was involved) and it was a challenging experience. Interesting, though.
Quick tribute to mah DBH home boi, Connor RK800.

More art inspired by 'Death Stranding'. This time I have a time-lapse video to go with it. Trying new things.
Anyways, I will soon be diving into #OctoberDechART, so I will be slowing down / taking a pause from my personal paintings to participate in the challenge, cos why not?
