JUNE 2022 SKETCH WRAP-UP

This month was... interesting. This is the month where I almost effectively broke away from my usual Norman Reedus sketches and I dove into other characters/personalities. Well, okay I started off with one Norman Reedus sketch with ink, then it was Sarah Fier and Hannah Miller from FEAR STREET, Natalie Wynn from CONTRAPOINTS, Abigail Thorn from PHILOSOPHYTUBE and Elliot Page. And then there is also my Dad, of course, for Father's Day.

And then, came Ken Hirai. My friend told me about a song of his. I liked the song, and went on to discover more from him. Long story short, I fell in love with him instantly. And for much of the month, I couldn't stop sketching him... until another energy came around.

For a while I took a break from Ken Hirai, with a model sketch. After that, I thought I'd try with Jonas Kahnwald from DARK (got a crush on the guy, and a friend had recently talked to me about the show again after so long). It was fun studying the guy's face for the portraits. Not exactly perfect, but I liked that I didn't feel as daunted anymore as I would with portraits in general. I did feel a tad more confident in tackling him, so I thought I tried another childhood crush of mine: young Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi as portrayed by Ewan McGregor (people were talking about the finale for the OBI-WAN KENOBI show at the time, so I thought it'd be perfect). Had my fun and I sure wasn't as daunted as before either. I ended up attempting four in a day (and where was this energy back in May? I really don't know).

Then, the new STARS WARS JEDI: SURVIVOR trailer dropped and that reminded me of one of my more recent (though not exactly that recent anymore) crushes, Cal Kestis from FALLEN ORDER.

I remembered trying to draw a fantasy OC called Callister that was kind of inspired by Cal in FALLEN ORDER a few years ago and in both attempts, I found the task daunting and I wasn't satisfied with the final result, so I thought now was as good a time as any to try it again.

I ended up enjoying myself so much I made six sketches of him in total. Not perfect, but I am happy that I'm getting closer.

So that's a wrap for June Sketches.
